How to Create a Fillable PDF Form

Open a PDF or start fresh – Drop your PDF into the box, or choose a blank page or one of the templates (contact, registration, survey).
Add the fields – Pick a field type and click on the page, or drag to draw its size. Or click "Detect fields" and let the tool suggest fields where it finds underscores, underlines, empty boxes and squares.
Set them up – Select a field to give it a name, a default value, a tooltip, a font size and colours, and to mark it required or read-only. Use "Preview" to test filling the form.
Download – Click "Download fillable PDF". You get your PDF with real form fields added on top of the original pages.

What You Can Do

Six field types – Single-line and multiline text fields, check boxes, radio button groups, drop-down lists and list boxes.
Detect fields – The tool looks for underscores, underlines, empty rectangles and small squares in your PDF and suggests fields, named after the nearby text. Review the suggestions and delete the ones you do not need.
Full control of each field – Name, default value, tooltip, maximum length, character boxes (comb), font size, text, border and background colours, required and read-only.
Fast layout tools – Drag, resize with eight handles, snap to a grid, select several fields, align and space them out, copy and paste, duplicate, copy to other pages, undo and redo.
Preview before you download – Switch on Preview to type into the fields, tick the boxes and open the lists, exactly as a user would.
Existing forms are kept – If your PDF already has form fields, they stay as they are, and new field names never clash with them. Pages are not converted to images.
Blank pages and templates – Start from a blank A4 or Letter page, or from a ready-made contact, registration or survey form that you can change freely.

Good to Know

The fields are standard PDF form fields (AcroForm). They can be filled in most PDF viewers that support forms, such as Adobe Acrobat and Reader and the viewers built into Chrome, Edge and Firefox.
There is no signature field and no cryptographic signature. To add a visible signature, use Sign PDF after the form is filled in.
"Required" is saved in the field, but only some viewers (such as Adobe Acrobat) enforce it. There is no JavaScript, no validation or calculation, and no Submit button, because those need a server or a script.
Text written inside fields may not shape correctly in Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi and similar scripts in some viewers, and default values in these scripts can be left empty. Labels on a blank page or template are drawn with your device's fonts, so they show in these scripts as long as your device has a font for them.
Password-protected PDFs and PDFs with permission restrictions cannot be changed directly. Remove the protection first with Unlock PDF.
If the PDF already contains a certificate-based digital signature, that signature will no longer validate once you add fields. XFA (dynamic) forms lose their XFA layer.
"Detect fields" is a time-saver, not a promise: it can miss fields or suggest some that you do not need, so always look through the result.
